Back To Normal? »

I’ve just rolled back my Wordpress install to version 2.2.3 after my troubles with 2.3. I’m not totally sure if this has solved all the issues I had but things seem a bit more stable. I’ll be keeping an eye on this over the next few days… let me know if you see anything funky ;-)

Please Take My Advice… »

This is a quick one for all bloggers using Wordpress. Once you upgrade to the shiny new version 2.3 don’t just blindly convert all your categories into tags. Although you will have a cool tag cloud, there are some other issues to be dealt with… just keep those categories the way they are and start tagging your posts (where did I put that MySQL backup?)

Some of my issues...

Please Build a Notes Plug-in! »

I’ll start back after a bit of an unintended blog hiatus with a simple request to Wine 2.0 tasting notes site entrepreneurs.

Please either publish an API to your tasting notes feature or build a Wordpress plug-in so I don’t have to cut and paste my reviews into your site.

Whoever delivers this first will be the exclusive site for republishing my reviews for a period of time. This is my main gripe about all these sites as it creates more work for me. I’d rather create more content than spend time pasting it into other site(s).

I’m even open collaborating with a site in order to build such a plug-in (yes, I have decent php coding chops). What I want to do is publish the review here and have it tagged in such a way to automatically be imported into your site in my ‘winecast’ account. Microformats would be a nice touch, but not required in the first release.

Who’s game?

BTW, I have about a hundred unpublished tasting notes that I will be posting on a more or less daily basis this summer starting today. I’m planning on tasting quite a bit more this summer on a few road-trips but that’s a post for another day ;-)

Quick Wordpress Vinolin Hack »

What the bottom of the Wordpress admin dashboard looks like with this hack

If you have a Wordpress blog and like Vinolin as much as I do, you’ll appreciate this quick hack of the main admin Dashboard screen in Wordpress. Instead of the geeky Wordpress blog bits, the latest stories from Vinolin are presented each time you log-in. Just replace your current “index.php” file in the “wp-admin” directory of your Wordpress installation with this file (uncompressed, of course). It will even get better once the folks at Vinolin put more stories on their feed (hint, hint; 20 posts, please).

Enjoy!
