Champagne Theme for WBW 25

by Tim on 8/8/2006

Wine Blogging Wednesday logoSam from Becks and Posh last hosted Wine Blogging Wednesday over a year ago with the theme of Rosé. Next month, she is again hosting and has chosen the theme of Champagne, the world’s most celebrated sparkling wine. I’m not sure which approach I will take for this theme given that “good” Champagne starts at around $30 USD and I hope to find something a bit better. Perhaps a single bottle tasting is in the cards, a few half bottles or I might get lucky and find a local tasting. All will be revealed here on September 13th.

PS: Lee Ann, let me know which Champagne you would open here ;-)

Hello Tim,

I’m not sure you can find some in the US, but if you’re looking for an amazing Champagne my advice would be some “André Beaufort AMBONNAY Grand Cru Brut Réserve”. We paid around 25 euros last saturday. Intense, original, long, rich, fine bubbles… wow.
You can have a look at my wife’s post about this here:

Cheers!

Thanks, Fred. This is exactly the type of Champagne I will be looking for; small production, individualistic wines noticeably different from most of the Champagne produced by the large houses. Hopefully I’ll find the André Beaufort you mentioned here…
