A new weekly side podcast highlighting some of the wines I have recently tasted and think you would enjoy. In this first installment I review two California Pinot Noirs for under $10 a bottle:

- Mark West, Pinot Noir, Central Coast 2004 ($8)
- HRM Rex-Goliath, “Giant 47 Pound Rooster, Pinot Noir, California NV ($8.50)

Would Pinot Noir go with Duck or Goose just as well as turkey?

Yes, Pinot should work with duck or goose, but because they are more gamy than turkey, I would lean to more the Burgundian style of Pinot Noir that tends to be somewhat earthier than most California or Oregon wines. Of the two I talked about on this podcast, the Mark West fits this profile best. If you can spend a few more bucks, check out Acacia Beckstoffer Las Amigas Vineyard or any number of wines from Burgundy.

Let me know what you ended up with and how you liked the match. Ponzi Pinot Noir 2002 will be on my table this year.

I just started enjoying wine and this Pinot is really delightful! Strong fruit flavor and aroma and not too tart. It’s fruit flavor lingers in your mouth! VERY enjoyable and reasonably priced, I get mine locally for Just under $10 a bottle. I like it best chilled in the fridge.

Sorry if I don’t sound like a Wine pro yet!
