Hello Tim,

I am very new to Podcasting, in fact only discovered it on Wednesday last week, however I am have been a serious wine drinker for years (I have been in the UK wine trade for 17 years!!!).

Firstly, great show, well informed and refreshingly delivered. I now know what my iPod was invented for!!!!

I was very interested in your forthcoming tasting of Pinot Noir from non-indigenous areas. You have suggested looking at Australia, in my opinion you may find this a little disappointing. Although there are some fine examples from Oz, on the whole the climate is too warm and unless a huge amount of detail is taken over canopy management, yields and site selection then the resultant wine will not generally be great. May I suggest that you look at New Zealand as an alternative??? A cooler climate that allows some really excellent wines to be produced. Areas that are particularly good are: Central Otago and Martinborough. At the London Wine Trade Fair I tasted The Schubert Pinot Noir and it was outstanding, really complex with well-developed dark cherry fruit and a slight vegetal edge, if you ever see it I would heartily recommend buying a bottle (or case).

Or another idea may be to look at Germany….Spatburgunder, some cracking examples although can be pricy.

Many thanks for a great show please let me know if I can help in any way.

Regards,

Graeme

[...] This has been a pretty light tasting month for me, with typical summer quaffers and a single tasting that produced an undistinguished group of notes with only a couple in the 8.5 range. This brings me to the previously posted wines for the most recent Wine Blogging Wednesday, the Trinitas Cellars, Old Vine Zinfandel 2002 and the M. Chapoutier, Banyuls 1998. Both wines earned the same 9/10 score, with the Banyuls edging out the Zin in a head-to-head duel with a bittersweet chocolate cake. I’d have to say that the Zin has to get the nod for the “best” wine, however, because it redefined for me what old vine Zin’s can be with much less of the in your face whack of fruit, tannin and oak, but some depth and structure revealed after decanting or breathing. Here are my full tasting notes for the record: [...]

I just began listening to your podcasts today - from iTunes.

You asked for comments - here's mine: please talk slower. It's hard for me to follow your train of thoughts and wine picks.

Other than that, I shared many of your opinions about Cabs - the one I'm listening to now.

Thanks.
