From the personal stock of Grape Radio’s Jay Selman:
White Rose Vineyard, “Quiotee’s Lair”, Yamhill County, Oregon, Pinot Noir 2002 ($45) - Dark ruby color, intense black fruit nose, concentrated flavors of blackberry, wild cherry and cassis with a touch of oak and silky mouthfeel; a little hot on the finish but with excellent concentration. A little tight right now so it might be better in a couple of years, but delicious none the less. Not your average Pinot. Score 9/10
Thanks, Jay!

Today’s show is a bit of a departure from the normal format of the show, answering questions about wine from listeners. I talk about Porto, cellaring wines, tannins, wine “legs” and how to preserve wine once opened.

I’m really sorry that I did not post Winecast 24 to my aac feed until this morning. Normally, this is done right after the show goes up on my main mp3 feed but for some reason I just forgot to do this on Monday. Thanks to Adam for letting me know the error of my ways.
Another show is in the works for this long weekend along with a new video feed…

As I mentioned in my most recent podcast, state lawmakers are now interpreting the U.S. Supreme Court decision from last week opening up interstate wine shipments. From this piece it looks like I will be once again enjoying some fine Wiemer Riesling this year!

Today’s podcast focuses on another Bordeaux blending variety: Malbec. I also talk about the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision opening up interstate wine shipments to more states and follow up on the wine and food matching challenge from Winecast 22.
Wines reviewed:
- Altos Las Hormigas, Malbec, Mendoza Argentina 2003 ($10)
- Bodega Norton, Malbec, Mendoza Argentina 2003 ($8)
- Finca El Portillo, Malbec, Mendoza Argentina 2003 ($13)

The theme of Pinot Blanc (or is it Pinot Gris or Pinot Grigio?!) has been announced for the next Wine Blogging Wednesday by Alice over at the My Adventures in the Breadbox blog. Since this was to be the theme of an upcoming Winecast, I will move this varietal to June 8th and slide in another white for the show this weekend.
Speaking of shows, I will be recording my Malbec show this evening with my mobile setup from Portland, Oregon. Perhaps I will have a chance to sample some Willamette Valley Pinot Gris while I am in town…

In a landmark decision, the U.S. Supreme Court has overturned laws in New York and Michigan that made it a crime for out of state wineries to ship wine to consumers. This is great news for all U.S. wine lovers, but there is still a ways to go to fully open up ecommerce in some states. Surely this ruling will pave the way for future improvements. More details in my next podcast and Bill Wilson has also blogged on this ruling.
Cheers, indeed!

I noticed that Dave Winer posted about the free RSS feed from The Wall Street Journal the other day. Once I checked it out, I noticed that Dottie Gaiter and John Brecher’s “Tastings” column is among the free goodness; very cool! For those of us on Mac OS X Tiger, just click on the link on the right menu. For everyone else, you will need to add this link to your aggregator. If you don’t know RSS from UPS, check out this Firefox plug-in.
Enjoy!

Renwood, “Old Vine” Zinfandel 2002 ($20) - Dark ruby color, herb and blackberry aromas, boysenberry and plum flavors with a bit of oak and ripe tannins. Nice berry finish. Delicous. Score: 9/10
